Shawneque Johnson

Mrs. Shawneque Johnson is a lifelong resident of Orange, New Jersey, and a proud product of the Orange Public Schools. Deeply rooted in the community she serves, Mrs. Johnson has dedicated her life to uplifting families, supporting youth, and advancing public education with integrity and compassion. As a parent, advocate, and public servant, she brings a unique blend of lived experience, steadfast commitment, and unwavering love for the city she calls home. Mrs.Johnson is in the community but more importantly she converses with families and students to ensure their experiences are second to none within the city in which she has called home for over 50 years.
Before ever holding public office, Mrs. Johnson’s service to Orange was marked by grassroots advocacy and direct support for families in need. From mentoring young people to working in social services and engaging in countless community events, her efforts have always been guided by the belief that real change begins with showing up and staying engaged.
Now serving as an experienced board member and current President of the Orange Board of Education, Mrs. Johnson leads with a vision informed by both policy knowledge and personal experience. Her leadership bridges the gap between the boardroom and the community, ensuring that every decision reflects the voices and values of Orange families. As both a parent and a public official, she understands the challenges families face and champions the aspirations of every child in the district. Mrs. Johnson currently attends all board and committee meetings so she can review and ask poignant questions to ensure that the students and staff are well represented through goods and services. Further, she was instrumental as part of the negotiating team that worked collectively with both the Orange Education Association as well the Orange Administrators Supervisors Association on sound contracts this past school year; contracts that were extremely fair to all parties.
Mrs. Johnson does not measure success by titles, but by impact. Her work is driven by purpose: advocating for equity, creating opportunity, and building a stronger future for the students of Orange. Her continued leadership reflects not only her deep connection to the city, but her unwavering belief in its potential.
